How VAT works in Mauritius

Mauritius charges 15% VAT on most goods and services. If you sell taxable supplies, you collect VAT from your customers and pay it to the MRA. If you buy goods or services for your business, you can often reclaim the VAT you paid, called input VAT.

To add VAT to a price, multiply by 1.15. To work backwards from a VAT-inclusive price, divide by 1.15. For example, a Rs 2,000 service costs Rs 2,300 with VAT. A Rs 2,300 invoice breaks down as Rs 2,000 net plus Rs 300 VAT.

You must register for VAT if your annual turnover exceeds Rs 6 million. Even below that threshold, you can register voluntarily, which lets you reclaim input VAT. This calculator works for any amount in Mauritian Rupees.
